Eating Disorders

Anorexia Nervosa

Individuals who have anorexia try to keep their weight as low as possible by not eating sufficient food or exercising too much, or both. They often have a distorted image of their bodies, believing they’re overweight even when they’re underweight. Anyone of any age can get anorexia, but it’s most common in young women and typically begins in the mid-teens. Common risk factors associated with Anorexia nervosa, that hypnotherapy can help improve are Depression, Anxiety, OCD, and low Self-esteem. Bulimia Nervosa

Individuals who have bulimia go through periods where they consume a lot of food in a very short amount of time (binge eating) and then make themselves vomit, take laxatives, or do excessive exercise, or a mixture of these, to try to stop themselves gaining weight. Binge Eating Disorder (BED)

A Binge eating disorder entails frequently consuming a substantial amount of food quite quickly until you’re uncomfortably full. Binges are often prepared in advance, usually done in isolation, and may include “special” binge foods. Individuals may feel guilty or embarrassed after binge eating. Men and women of any age can have a binge-eating disorder. Other specified feeding or eating disorder (OSFED)

Sometimes a person’s symptoms don’t exactly fit the expected symptoms for any specific eating disorders. In that case, they might have “other specified feeding or eating disorder” (OSFED). This is very common. OSFED accounts for the highest proportion of eating disorders, and any person of any age, gender, ethnicity, or background can go through it. Obesity

Avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID)

Avoidant restrictive food intake disorder, more frequently referred to as ARFID, is a disorder characterised by the individual avoiding certain foods or types of food, having limited intake in terms of overall amount consumed, or both. Someone might be avoiding and/or restricting their consumption for a number of reasons. Orthorexia Nervosa

Orthorexia refers to an unhealthy fixation with eating “pure” food. Food considered “pure” or “impure” can differ from person to person. This doesn’t mean that anyone who subscribes to a healthy eating plan or diet regime is experiencing orthorexia. Like other eating disorders, the eating behaviour involved – “healthy” or “clean” eating in this situation – is used to deal with negative thoughts and emotions, or to feel in control. Common risk factors associated with Binge Eating Disorder, that hypnotherapy can help improve are Perfectionism, OCD traits, dieting history, poor body image, anxiety, and stress.
